Intro
Intra-venous Sedation
How it work's
This is a method of delivering treatments for those who are anxious, by administering a relaxant/sedative via a drip-line in your hand or arm. The sedative (Midazolam) alters your consciousness, making you very relaxed and sleepy, meaning you are much less aware of your surroundings and the dental treatment taking place.
This method requires planning in advance, and we will require you to attend for a consultation prior to treatment. On the day of treatment, you will need to attend with another responsible adult, or “escort” so that they can take you home and care for you for the following 24 hours. For these 24 hours after sedation, you will need to be observed and cared for, and cannot drive, go to work, or be responsible for others (children etc). You also may not operate machinery, or sign any legal documents.
While you are sedated, we monitor your vital signs (heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation) so it is an extremely safe method of delivering care.
Prior to departure, we will advise you and your escort on all of the necessary post-operative care.
