Intro
General Anaesthetic
How it work's
This is where a patient wishes to be fully “knocked out” for their dental surgery. This care is provided in the Mater Private Cork. This requires day-case admission to the hospital and rarely requires an over-night stay. The general anaesthetic itself is delivered by a consultant anaesthetist, whose sole purpose is to manage your “sleep” while you are having treatment. You generally are kept on the hospital ward for a few hours after the surgery while you wake up and return to normal consciousness.
While there are always risks associated with any procedure, general anaesthetics are nowadays extremely safe. However, we will need to meet you for a consultation in advance of any admission to the Mater Private Cork, as there can be medical contraindications to GA, or medications that require prior management.
