Intro
Oral Medicine and Biopsies
How it work's
Many lumps and bumps can appear in the mouth for different reasons. The vast majority of these are innocent, but some require further monitoring and/or treatment. This can involve the need to remove a small sample of tissue from the lesion, which is known as a biopsy. The specimen is sent for testing so that we can determine the exact tissue type and so can manage it accordingly.
Oral medicine also involves the management of unusual oral symptoms (such as raw/burning sensations) or nerve pain (neuralgias) where no obvious lesion is visible.
Our oral medicine consult, Dr Richeal Ni Riordain, has recently joined the team and manages all of these cases.
